Full Evaluation Peer Collaboration

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

Over the course of the Spring 2019-Fall 2019 academic year, I was tasked to undergo my Haverford Full Evaluation as a result of having taught at the school for three years. I found the process thorough and constructive, especially in comparison to evaluations I have been a part of in the past at former schools, but perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of the process was being granted one peer colleague to be a part of my Full Evaluation team. I had only spoken to Mr. Jamison Maley tangentially before, as our interests in culture, philosophy and media had intersected socially, but I understood him to be a very deep thinker with a profound and creative understanding of his teaching craft and could think of no better peer collaborator for myself at that moment of my tenure at Haverford than him. When I asked him, I was honored when he returned the privilege and asked me to be his as well, since he too was undergoing his Full Evaluation. In our time working together, he and I explored multiple collaborative interdisciplinary ideas, reflected on the institution of education in society and our roles as teachers in it, and for the purposes of evaluation, observed a number of each others classes (I should say participated in such were the contributions I know he made to my students and hopefully me to his) following up with both verbal and written feedback. His observations of my teaching always provided me with new points to ponder and refine, and I hope I served to do the same for him.
