On Tuesday November 19th, Haverford hosted the first Philly Independent School Math Olympiad which served as the culmination of the Math League that had taken place over the fall between Haverford, Agnes Irwin, Baldwin, Episcopal Academy, Shipley, Penn Charter, Springside-Chestnut Hill Academy, Westtown, The Hill School and The George School. The competition was held in collaboration with Aretelabs, the company that provided the math contest problems and software application for the contest, and the company's founder, Tim Kelley was on hand to help facilitate the event. On the day, EA finished the day as deserving winners after being pushed to the end by rivals Haverford, but everyone present, both students and teachers agreed that the event was successful because of the enthusiasm it generated amongst the student participants and bonding that occurred over a shared love of mathematics. Plans are already in the works for the second annual olympiad next year! Check out the gallery below for more pictures from the event.
